A rare celestial spectacle stunned millions of skywatchers worldwide last night as a blood moon appeared in the skies. The first pictures of this breathtaking event have gone viral, capturing the Moon glowing in deep shades of red and orange.
The phenomenon, known as a total lunar eclipse, takes place when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon. During this alignment, sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere gets filtered. Shorter blue and green wavelengths scatter, while the longer red wavelengths bend around the Earth and project onto the lunar surface, giving it a striking blood-red glow.
